  MoWiTy meets MeetUp 

  MoWiTy is just a few shy of the infinite monkeys we envisioned hammering away in pursuit of our various creative ends. To help realize our dreams of infinity, MoWiTy now has a Meetup Group on Meetup.com. For those who may be unfamiliar with it, Meetup.com is a site for people to organize and locate local groups of people for a variety of passions, including, now, our desire to create with reckless abandon. There is no cost to sign up or join our group, which you can find at http://www.meetup.com/MonkeysWithTypewriters/.

  With our move to Meetup, we will be changing our schedule to a less rigorous bi-weekly cycle. Other than that, it will be the same MoWiTy we all know and love.   The future of the Artisphere 

  Here’s an article that appeared in Arl Now today about the future of our current meeting venue, the Artisphere. Briefly, the space is likely to close Mondays and Tuesdays and open later in the day. So far, that doesn’t sound like it will cause any problems for us. I really hope they are able to stay open for the long term. It’s sad that their restaurant is closed, but hopefully they’ll find someone who can open a more inspiring restaurant there in the future. I’d love to see the venue used by one of DC’s successful food trucks, for instance. How cool would that be?

    Oh no! Good thing we moved MoWiTy to Wednesdays! I would love some delicious street food at the Artisphere, although I wonder if I’d be able to write in the midst of a burrito coma…

  ‘Written? Kitten!’ – A cool new speedwriting tool 

  If you’re a fan of MoWiTy’s own MonkeyType, or the more vindictive Write or Die, you might also like Written? Kitten! It’s a new writing tool where, instead of buzzing or flashing if you’re not writing, it rewards you with an adorable kitten photo every time you achieve your goal.

  I’m digging the positive reinforcement. To try it out, I found myself writing 300 words in ten minutes or so, just to get a new kitty every 100 words. Unfortunately, all of the words I wrote are about cats. I’ll need to work on that.

  MoWity’s schedule continues Wednesdays at Artisphere 

  Hi monkeys! We’re having our first post-NaNoWriMo MoWity meeting this Weds! Also, we’ll continue to meet Wednesdays at Artisphere for as long as it’s a good date and location for everybody. See you Wednesday!

  HEY: We’re UPSTAIRS at Artisphere instead of downstairs this time. Just go up the escalator into the “Town Hall” where the bar is, then go up the stairs to find us.

  Artisphere’s cafe will close on Wednesday 

  Oh no! Is MoWiTy cursed? The cafe at the Artisphere will close on Wednesday. I’m not sure if this means Wednesday is the last day it’s open or the first day it’s closed. You may want to hit up Chipotle or wherever before or during the meeting instead. Also, if you’re a few minutes early, there’s a great sandwich shop that closes at 7PM and is accessible through the lobby of the Artisphere building.

  Next MoWiTy meeting will be on Wednesday, November 30! 

  We’re meeting on Wednesday, November 30 this week! We can sprint to the home stretch of NaNoWriMo, and maybe have drinks to celebrate afterwards. Even if we’re not all NaNoWriMo winners (my word count isn’t so hot, buddies), we can toast to the memory of an awesome November.

  Special Monday Night MoWiTy meeting on the 21st 

  So that no one has to miss out due to the Thanksgiving holiday, our Monkeys with Typewriters meeting will be on Monday, November 21 next week! We’ll meet from 7PM-10PM at the Artisphere as usual.

  Our Wednesday night meeting is going well and it’s nice and quiet here at the Artisphere. I even got a chance to ride the chicken! Here is proof:

  Next MoWiTy meeting will be on Wednesday, November 16! 

  Our calendar is changing once again — Tuesday night is salsa night at the Artisphere and it’s a little loud for writing. We’re going to try Wednesday this week. As usual, we’re meeting from 7-10PM in the Town Hall of the Artisphere. We have been meeting on the level that’s up the escalator from the front desk, but if it’s loud for some reason, we might try moving to the level up the stairs from there.

  Next MoWiTy meeting will be Tuesday, November 8 

  We discussed what day of the week we’ll be meeting, and Tuesday is good for everyone next week. We still might move the meetings to another day of the week (we’re testing the waters with Tuesday), but for now, our meetings will be on Tuesday, November 8. We hope to see you there!
